About

Expanded Eye is a London based multidisciplinary duo, formed by the couple Jade Tomlinson and Kevin James in 2010. Their distinct storytelling approach and unique iconography evolved organically over the last decade, is able to travel seamlessly throughout a myriad of media, such as painting, sculpture, installation and on skin as a living canvas, to form a cohesive and eclectic artistic unity.

Figures and forms float between past and future in dreamlike narratives. Carefully constructed compositions explore the curious space between 2D and 3D, breathing new life into once-cherished objects, offer a window into a re-imagined present, beyond physical reality.

Fragments of the past preserved and immortalised in a dynamic and poetic language. Antique assemblages, deconstructed and repurposed, textures and tones in rhythmic union with abstract portraiture, patterns and intricate line work.

The mastery of various techniques and the skilful manipulation and juxtaposition of materials allow Expanded Eye to produce intricate compositions of interconnected pieces at various scales, as parts of a puzzle that gives new meaning to items once regarded as ordinary.

The pair delve deep into the complexity of the human condition creating mystical works born out of a loving, synchronised synergy. Exploring the invisible and sacred thread that unites experience to memory, their emotive works embody the human experience - traversing our fragmented senses of self, hidden jewels of grief, potent vulnerability, sheer bliss and elevated moments of joy; in an attempt to express the unexplainable, the inexpressible, the unfathomable, the timeless.

Each and every unique tattoo created is our visual interpretation of concepts and stories provided by the client which hold significant meaning to the individual.

We encompass as much personal detail possible whilst allowing each design to evolve organically into a contemporary piece of art, which we then transfer from paper to skin.

Please send your story/concept and body placement in the first email. We kindly ask you not to overly concern yourself with the aesthetics (that's our job) but to rather focus on what you want your tattoo to represent.

We take on very few projects out of the vast amount we receive in order to give each client the time and energy they deserve.
